Work of the SJBVC

The Benedictine Volunteers at Saint John’s Abbey are assigned to any of the work of the community that happens on campus. Depending on their skills and interests, volunteers may be assigned to Saint John's Preparatory School, Abbey Woodworking, clerical work for the Benedictine Volunteer Corps, maintenance, and grounds, or other areas of the community.

One of the primary ways in which volunteers contribute is through their work at Saint John's Preparatory School. Volunteers may work as classroom assistants, tutors, coaches, or in other support roles, helping students develop their academic skills and personal growth. By sharing their time, energy, and expertise, volunteers help create a supportive and inclusive environment for students to learn and grow.

In addition to their work with the school, volunteers also contribute to the community through their work in Abbey Woodworking. Here, volunteers have the opportunity to develop their woodworking skills and create beautiful and functional pieces for use in the abbey and beyond. Volunteers play a vital role in preserving the rich artistic traditions of the Benedictine community.

Volunteers may also contribute to the community through their work in clerical roles, helping to support the administrative and operational needs of the abbey. They may also participate in maintenance and groundskeeping activities, ensuring that the abbey and its surrounding areas remain safe, clean, and beautiful for all who visit.
